What
is theology in the Middle Ages?
Religious cultures in Europe (8th - 15th century)
International conference
Warszawa (Poland)
23.-26.6.2004
The International Society for the Study of
Medieval Theology (IGTM) will organize an international conference on What is
theology in the Middle Ages?. The conference will take place June 23rd-26th
2004 in Warszawa (Poland) and is organized in cooperation with the Institue for
Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Dominican Thomas-Institute,
Warszawa, and the Institute for Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences in
Prague.
The conference will include a number of sections dedicated to the
explicit and implicit concept of theology in the Middle Ages. By theology
we do not only think of theologia, but also of divinitas, sacra pagina
and other names and concepts of what is subsumed under the modern term
theology. For this reason we will not only have sections dedicated to the
explicit concept of theology as it appears in different centuries in the works
of theological authors, but also sections dedicated to the implicit concept of
theology in various branches of theological production (history of exegesis,
canon law, history of spirituality, sermon studies, art history, history of
liturgy etc.). We will not only look at the Latin tradition, but also at the
Arab, Greek and Hebrew traditions.
